High school: Tongaat Hulett invests R1,7 mln

2012-09-03 00:00

TONGAAT Hulett has invested R1,7 million to accelerate the implementation of a school infrastructure programme at Isiphephelo High School, outside KwaMbonambi. The money will be used to build an administration block, four classrooms, ablution facilities and a kitchen.

The initiative is being driven through the sugar giant’s Masithuthukisane Trust, which was established as a school infrastructure programme to support rural schools in the communities where the company operates.

Tongaat Hulett spokesperson Michelle Jean-Louis said the trust has committed R8,5 million to support 12 schools in the company’s cane catchment areas.

School principal Sthembiso Madela said the Tongaat Hulett funding was “a godsend”.

“The challenge of overcrowding and inadequate infrastructure will be history now,” he said.
