Highway herd: three hurt as family car hits cow on N3

2010-08-10 00:00

THREE family members were injured when their vehicle struck and killed a stray cow on the N3 near Cato Ridge on Sunday evening.

ER24 spokesperson Derrick Banks said the family were returning from a night out in Durban when they came across the cows near the Cato Ridge off-ramp at about 11.30 pm.

“The driver was able to veer out of the way for one of the cows, but unfortunately collided into the second one just a few metres away.

The collision occurred on the passenger side of the vehicle. The impact caused the cow to be killed instantly,” Banks said. He said one of the victims was a woman in her fifties, who suffered facial injuries.

He said they were all sent to Medi-Clinic in Pietermaritzburg.
