Hijacking: cop fights back

2009-02-15 00:00

Hijackers who tried their luck with a motorist sitting in his vehicle in Khan Road on Saturday evening, fled when the man, an off-duty policeman, returned fire.

Senior Superintendent Henry Budhram said the policeman was waiting for his fiancée when he was confronted by two armed men. He was ordered out of his car and one of the gunmen fired a shot.

Budhram said the policeman drew his firearm and fired at the robbers.

One of the suspects fled towards the Aryan Hall, where he confronted another two people waiting in a Mercedes Benz.

“The suspect ordered both occupants out of the vehicle and fled in it,” said Budhram.

The Mercedes Benz was later found abandoned near Cato Ridge.

Budhram said no one was injured and no arrests have been made.
