Hijacking: pair drop bail bid

TWO men charged in connection with hijacking two cars in Scottsville and the attempted murder of two policemen, will not be applying for bail, while their co-accused will make a bid for bail.

Ayanda Shezi (20), Thulani Reginald Mngadi (49) and Makhosonke Siyabonga Buthelezi (34) of Hammarsdale, are facing charges of:

• Pointing a firearm at Johanna Woodroff in Dulwich Road on May 31 and making off with her VW Polo car, a handbag, two cellphones, identity documents and R500 cash.

• Hijacking Thabani Mkhize in Escombe Road on June 18 and making off with his Hyundai SUV.

• The attempted murders of Tanki Machili and Christian Xolani Shabangu, who were shot at in Golf Road during crossfire between police and the robbers before their arrest.

• Possession of an illegal firearm after they were found with a 9 mm Norinco.

Shezi, who will be applying for bail, and his co-accused will be back in court on August 16. The state is opposed to them being released on bail.
