Hijacking victim recovering

2014-06-04 00:00

GEORGE Geyser (73), who was shot in a botched hijacking, is still recovering in hospital.

“He’s still very weak and can’t stay awake,” his wife Wilma told The Witness. “Yesterday he was alert and talking but today he’s just sleeping. That’s because of all the drugs and morphine in his system.”

A model airplane enthusiast, Geyser was shot twice in the right arm while on his way home after flying model aircraft at the Umhlanga Model Fliers Club airfield near Hazelmere Dam, Verulam, on Saturday morning.

When Geyser saw a tree branch blocking the dirt road and two men beside it he attempted to drive past. The men opened fire, hitting Geyser, who subsequently lost consciousness from shock and loss of blood and crashed his Mercedes Benz station wagon.

Reaction Unit SA members took him to Mediclinic Victoria Hospital. — WR.
