Hilarious,hard-hitting theatre

THIS year’s Musho International Festival of One and Two Hander Theatre kicks off at the Catalina Theatre in Durban, tomorrow, and runs until Sunday, January 16.

Hosted by the Performing Arts Network of South Africa (Pansa), the festival opens with From Bush To Country at 8 pm tomorrow night. The play is a hilarious, hard-hitting and heartfelt tale of one man’s journey through the mad history of Zimbabwe. Written and performed by Arifani Moyo and directed by William Le Cordeur, this drama piece is suitable for those aged 14 and up.

On Thursday, at 8 pm, the festival is staging F*ck Politics — Let’s Dora, a play set in 1977, which tells the story of a nice Jewish boy who is on his weekend pass from the army. A show about drag queens and military conscription, this play is a piece of nostalgia — but definitely not for the faint-hearted. Written and performed by Robert Colman, the show is suitable for ages 16 and up.

Also on the festival bill are Shika-Land!; H.O.T.T.; Ouma; Paperboy; Crush-Hopper; The Swansong of Norrie Da Silva and Men’s Room. There are also six productions from community groups involved in the Twist Theatre Development Project under the banner, Musho Twist.

To book tickets phone the Catalina Theatre at 031 305 6889. A full programme is available at www.musho festival.co.za
