Hilton Stables: horses worth R75 000 stolen

2010-06-29 00:00

THREE horses worth a total of about R75 000 were stolen from a farm near Howick on Sunday night.

Claire Owen from Hilton Stables in Birnam Wood outside Merrivale said her family realised that two Appaloosas and a Boerperd had been stolen when she saw that a fence in their field has been cut open.

“In total, we have 41 horses, and the ones that were stolen were with 15 others in the field.

“When I realised that they were missing, I thought they had escaped to a mielie field. We sent out staff to go look for them, but later I realised that they were stolen,” said Owen.

The family has since opened a case with Mpophomeni police station.

“We have also discussed the matter with the (South African Police Force) stock theft unit.

“We are even prepared to offer a reward to anyone who can help us get them back,” she said. The Owens can be contacted at 033 330 4449.
