Hilton: another outage

2010-04-23 00:00

HILTON residents said yesterday they are fed up with the Msunduzi Municipality’s incompetence when they were forced to spend another afternoon and evening without electricity. The electricity went off at 1 pm and was still off last night.

Process manager for electricity, Maxwell Mthembu, said the power outage was caused by trees being chopped down by contractors and falling on lines.

“Trees fell on three different power lines, bringing them down completely and most parts of Hilton were without electricity,” he said.

Mthembu said that when they arrived to investigate, there was a small fire at one of the places where the power lines were down.

“The contractors fled the scene and they chopped down the trees without consulting us. We will file a report and we will hold them liable for the damage caused,” said Mthembu.

Residents who spoke to The Witness were fed up with being without electricity for three days, with various excuses offered. The earlier failures were blamed on the failure of the main feeder line.
