Hilton boys raise R29 000 for Cedric

2008-05-26 00:00

HILTON College have gone beyond the call of duty by raising R29 000 for a rival school’s old boy — former Shark’s back liner, Cedric Mkhize.

Mkhize, who was an integral part of the Sharks squad, was disabled in a car accident in Welkom last year.

The Hilton boys, who have been working under the direction of school head Andrew Bourdillion, committed themselves to raising enough money to purchase a conversion kit for Mkhize’s car — all in the name of rugby and friendship between them and rivals Maritzburg College.

The conversion kit will allow Mkhize to drive a car unassisted.

Mkhize will be presented with his gift tomorrow in the Hilton theatre, where he will also address the school.

In the past, fellow Sharks have also rallied around Mkhize by making a commitment to spend 2008 raising funds for the Cedric Mkhize Trust Fund, established by Durban firm of attorneys Garlicke and Bousfield.

That same accident claimed the lives of two other players, Nardus “Pompies” Wessels (21) and Ashley Maphisa (23).
