Hilton: festival kicks off

2008-09-11 00:00

Despite wet weather and problems over the non-delivery of money from the National Lottery, the 16th annual Witness Hilton Arts Festival got off to a good start last night with a performance of KickstArt’s Shirley Valentine, followed by a cocktail party.

Opening the festival, actor and writer of this year’s flagship production, Nothing But the Truth, John Kani, hailed the festival as an incredible event. “We are such a bad news country and that is because we think we are not making it,” he said. “We need a positive attitude, and now is the time to celebrate our humanity…

“And I wish the KZN government would make the Hilton Festival as important as the Grahamstown Festival,” he added, declaring the festival open.
