Hip-hop and R&B talent

“I WANT to develop the youth.” That’s what Lunique Events and Entertainment owner Lungelo Sithole told The Witness at the end of his Unleashed talent show at the Winston Churchill Theatre in Scottsville last Saturday.

In its second round, the talent show has seen scores of teenagers from around Pietermaritzburg and Durban flocking to Scottsville to “unleash” their rapping and dancing talent.

“I saw a gap in the Pietermaritzburg hip-hop and R&B scene. The movement was small, I had to make it big,” said Sithole, after mastering the jam-packed ceremony.

Sithole (23) told The Witness that making stars of Maritzburg’s youth is his vision. “I want to develop the youth. I want to invite dance schools as talent scouts next time. I’m currently in sponsorship negotiations with two popular fashion brands. I want them to motivate the youth with those sponsorships,” he said.

Of the R15 and R20 (VIP) tickets he charges at the door, Sithole said a large portion goes back to making the youth event a reality. “I don’t make much money. A large sum goes into hiring the venue and a sound system,” he added.

He said Unleashed talent shows will be held on the last Saturday of every month and his next show, which will have a World Cup theme, will be held on June 26 and will have lots of Diski dancing.
