Hip-hop house hybrid

2009-11-27 00:00

ESCOURT musicians, Philani Manyoni and Patrick Vincent, have joined forces to collaborate on a new musical project. The pair have mixed traditional hip hop with house and kwaito to create a hybrid sound that is already wowing audiences.

Vincent (better known to fans as Obreez), who is originally from Nigeria, said that hip hop artists are struggling to get their message across to as many people as they want to. “Many people listen to house, so we felt that by using a house beat with hip hop lyrics we could get the message out to as many people as possible,” he added.

And the response has been great so far, Manyoni (DJ Mpiloz) said. “The people we have played it for are loving it ... It doesn’t have any boundaries. Rather, it has an international feel that I think anyone around the world will enjoy.”

You can hear their new sound on DJ Fish’s show on Urban Youth Radio tonight from 6 pm and at Skhalaz Place in Wembezi, Estcourt on December 5 from 8 pm till late.
