Historians’ gathering

2013-09-26 00:00

THE South African Society for History Teaching (SASHT) will be holding its annual national conference at Maritzburg College tomorrow and Saturday.

Academics and teachers from all over the country and as far afield as Germany will present over 30 papers and workshops on topics related to the teaching of history. The conference will culminate with talks by guest speakers, Dan Wylie, who has written extensively on Shaka, and Jonathan Jansen, the vice-chancellor of Free State University and well-known commentator on education.

The society was founded in the early 1980s with a view to promoting best practice in the teaching of history. Besides organising the conference, the SASHT publishes an accredited journal, Yesterday and Today, and promotes workshops and other events in various parts of the country.
