Hit-and-run: Motorist lied to police

2008-07-31 00:00

A motorist who lied about being hijacked is in trouble with the Bergville police after it was discovered that he actually knocked down a pedestrian.

The 39-year-old man reported that he had been hijacked at about 8 pm on July 26 in Bethany Location, Bergville.

According to police spokeswoman Captain Charmaine Struwig, police asked the man to accompany them to point out the crime scene.

“During this time, his version of events changed and it was then alleged that he had not been hijacked. The driver alleged that he had … collided with an animal. Unfazed, police went in search of the animal and collision scene.”

Instead, police found the body of Mcebo Ndwandwe (30) and arrested the motorist for culpable homicide.
