Hit-’n-run: Man left critical

2008-06-03 00:00

A 21-year-old man is in a critical condition after being struck by a light motor vehicle in Pinetown yesterday morning in what seems to be a hit-and-run.

ER24 spokesman Derrick Banks said the incident took place during peak hour traffic on a busy suburban road in Pinetown.

“When ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene, they found the man lying on his side in a pool of blood in the middle of the road. Paramedics quickly assessed the patient and found that he had suffered a severe head injury. ER24 Advanced Life Support Melvin Chetty had to incubate the patient to help him breathe,” said Banks.

The patient, whose name is not known, was placed on a trauma board and his spine immobilised before being taken to hospital in a critical condition.
