Hockey: Good results for U16 midlands girls

THE opening day of the U16 Girls’ interprovincial hockey tournament saw good results for KZN teams, writes JONATHAN COOK.

In the top-tier A Section on the AB Jackson GreenFields Turf, KZN Coastal drew 1-1 with Western Province yesterday, while in the B Section hosts KZN Midlands beat Mpumalanga 4-1.

The IPT is also taking place on Pape’s Astro at Maritzburg College.

“The AB Jackson is an excellent venue to hold a tournament as everything is close at hand,” said tournament director Jean Field, a former Spingbok and someone with vast experience in international hockey circles.


A Section: South Gauteng 1 North Gauteng 0; East Cape A 2 East Cape B 2; WP 1 KZN Coastal 1; Free State A 1 Boland 0.

B Section: KZN Midlands 4 Mpumalanga 1; North West 0 Free State B 1; North Cape 0 East Gauteng 3; Limpopo 4 SWD 0.
