Hockey: bumper sponsorship deal for Midlands schoolgirls’ A league

2013-03-19 00:00

A BUMPER sponsorship deal has been secured for the Midlands “A” league of first-team schools, uMgungundlovu Girls’ Hockey Association chairperson Charmaine Koekemoer announced.

“We are delighted that Parklane SuperSpar will once again be the major sponsor for the ‘A’ league,” Koekemoer told The Witness.

The players turned out for a pre-season tournament won by Pietermaritzburg Girls’ High School and at a successful strikers’ and goalkeepers’ clinic.

The signs are there that local schools’ hockey is in good hands from both a player and administrative perspective.

Koekemoer said: “Parklane SuperSpar has also arranged support sponsors in Honeydew and 100 Plus. This forms a wonderful partnership that enables the uMgungundlovu association to provide a great environment for our players to build on their skills.”

Covered by the sponsorship are: support for league matches; strikers’ and goalkeepers’ clinics; warm-up apparel for the eight A-league schools and U16 and U18 district teams; the pre-season tournament, where each of 210 players from 14 schools received a hamper; trials and provincial tournaments in April and August; and the annual prize-giving.

The first matches of the season kick off on April 20 when St Anne’s take on Treverton, The Wykeham Collegiate tackle Voortrekker, and St John’s face Howick.
