‘Honour Pius Langa’

2013-08-05 00:00

“IT is well with us all. What God has given, He has taken. We can’t change the fact that dad is gone, but we can choose to honour him in our daily lives.”

With these moving words, Phumzile Langa paid tribute to her father, former chief justice Pius Langa, at his official funeral service on Saturday.

Langa was laid to rest at Redhill Cemetery, north of Durban, next to his wife Beauty, who died in 2009.

The who’s who of the legal and political community attended the funeral.

Former chief justice Sandile Ngcobo said Langa had been an inspiration, and even during his illness he remained optimistic he would recover.

Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng said Langa had been committed to transforming the judiciary, and credited him with pioneering a programme to empower judicial officers.
