Horror fans are in for a treat this week

HORROR fans will be delighted to know that this week’s new film at CineCentre is the thriller Sorority Row.

The movie tells the story of college juniors Cassidy (Briana Evigan), Jessica (Leah Pipes), Claire (Jamie Chung), Ellie (Rumer Willis) and Megan (Audrina Patridge), five sorority sisters who are sworn to trust, secrecy and solidarity, no matter what.

But their loyalty is tested when a prank goes terribly wrong and Megan is brutally murdered. Rather than confess to the crime, the girls hide the bloody corpse and promise to keep their secret forever.

Fast forward one year to graduation and a party during which all the girls receive cellphone videos that were taken on the night of Megan’s murder from an anonymous sender who threatens to send the videos to the police. Then, one by one, the sisters are stalked by an unseen killer.

Has Megan returned from the dead to exact her revenge, or was their secret discovered by someone else, someone who is determined to make them pay?

Sorority Row is a remake of the 1983 horror film, House on Sorority Row, and stars, alongside the cast of relative unknowns, Carrie Fisher, as housemother Mrs Crenshaw, a character who is a bit boozy, a bit overbearing and, ultimately, handy with a shotgun.

Commenting on the role, Fisher, who found fame as Princess Leia in Star Wars, said: “I enjoyed ending up in the film as a bad ass. Somehow this housemother learns to handle a double-barrelled shotgun.”

Other films still showing at CineCentre are Michael Jackson’s This Is It, Law Abiding Citizen, Surrogates, The Ugly Truth, Disney’s A Christmas Carol and Inglourious Basterds.
