Hospice rolls out sweet treats, coffee and shopping destination all in one

2010-07-28 00:00

COFFEE lovers will be pleased to know that a new venue has opened in the city where they can not only indulge their passion for the bean, but also support a worthy cause. This may even help to ward off feeling guilty for indulging in a slice of carrot cake with your cappuccino.

The Msunduzi Hospice Association (Hospice) has opened a coffee shop at its Zwartkop Road headquarters, which is a welcome addition to its well-known book shop and second-hand goods shop. Hence the new café offers coffee, a meal and shopping at one venue — and is worth more than just a quick visit.

The airy venue overlooks Hospice’s spacious gardens, which are the favourite haunt of a flock of Egyptian geese that roost in the Botanical Garden. The shop offers tea, coffee, soft drinks, light meals and sweet treats. All the food is prepared fresh on the premises.

The venue can seat about 30 people with indoor and outdoor tables, and it is wheelchair-friendly.

The new venture is a project aimed at helping to raise much-needed funds for Hospice’s work with people living with life-threatening illnesses and their families.

Staffed by volunteers, the coffee shop is open Monday to Friday from 9 am to 2 pm and from 8 am to 1 pm on Saturdays.

Phone Hospice at 033 344 1560.
