Hostel dwellers: unhappy about Zuma’s office snub

2010-08-16 00:00

A DURBAN-BASED association of hostel dwellers, Ubunye Bamahostela, has criticised the office of President Jacob Zuma for failing to send a representative to accept a memorandum of their grievances.

On Saturday, residents of 11 hostels under eThekwini Municipality marched in protest against a rent increase, calling for the improvement of living conditions in the hostels. The march is the association’s fourth since the rent increase in 2007.

Chairperson Muzi Nyandeni said he spoke to the president’s office on Tuesday and informed it that they were going to hold a march and deliver a memorandum addressed to Zuma.

Zuma’s spokesperson, Zizi Kodwa, denied that the office was informed about the march.
