Hotspur: Bongi getting stronger

2011-07-23 00:00

JOHANNESBURG — Tottenham Hotspur defender Bongani Khumalo was delighted to get 90 minutes under his belt against Orlando Pirates on Tuesday.

The 1-1 draw in the Vodacom Challenge at Nelspruit marked the South African international’s first full match since fracturing his metatarsal while on loan at Preston in April. “I was injured for almost three months, so it was great to get the full 90 minutes in at this point,” said Bongani, who plans to “only get stronger.”

It was a similar message from the defender in terms of the team’s progress as we complete a week’s preparation in South Africa. “This was our second game in pre-season and we always look to win, unfortunately this time we could only manage a draw. There were positives and we’ll push on from here.

Meanwhile, Bongani said a big thanks to the fans in South Africa after receiving a hero’s welcome wherever he goes back home.
