Housebreaking: Four arrested

2013-04-25 00:00

FOUR men suspected of housebreaking were arrested in Osizweni near Newcastle at the weekend.

The suspects, who are between the ages of 26 and 36, are allegedly part of a housebreaking gang that is wanted for a number of cases reported in the area.

“They appeared in the Madadeni Magistrate’s Court on April 22 and they were remanded in custody until May 11 for further investigation,” said police spokesperson Captain Thulani Zwane.

“The members of Osizweni police were doing their normal duties at the weekend when they received information about a firearm in the area,” said Zwane.

The police were led to a house in the Springbok area that they searched. An unlicensed firearm was found.

“A 36-year-old man, who is believed to be the ringleader of Ginida gang, was arrested and charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.”

Stolen goods amounting to R100 000 were also found in the house.
