How VIPs will greet a new year

IN a few hours, 2010 will be upon us. The Witness spoke to some well-known people in KwaZulu-Natal and Pietermaritzburg to find out how they will be welcoming in the new year when the clock strikes midnight.

KZN Premier Zweli Mkhize said he will be relaxing at home with his family.

The Democratic Alliance leader in the province, John Steenhuisen, said he will be hosting a 2010-themed New Year’s Eve party at his home in Durban for a small group of friends.

Msunduzi Mayor Zanele Hlatshwayo has absolutely no plans.

“I’ll just go with the flow,” she said.

IFP councillor Dolo Zondi said he is still so heartbroken over Msunduzi’s failure to achieve ­metro status that he cannot say how he will welcome 2010.

DA councillor Bill Lambert said: “I’m bringing it in very quietly, away from all the hectic activities of [2009].”

Maritzburg United striker Fadlu Davids is in Cape Town with his family and said he will be ringing in the year with a get-together at his home there.

Local kwaito artist Tina Masemola, better known by his stage name Unkle Licious, said he will be performing at Pom Place at Lion’s Park today.

Local comedian Justice Kubheka, who fared well in SABC1’s So You Think You’re Funny, said he will be home in Imbali when the clock strikes 12, having a braai with his family and close friends.
