2011-01-18 00:00

THE launch of the 2011 Sunfoil Schools Night league between Maritzburg College and the President’s XI took place on Sunday evening at the Maritzburg Oval.

The President’s XI elected to field in the T20 match. After two early wickets it appeared the correct decision, but then Gareth Orr and Greg Miller put up a 100-run, third wicket partnership in 70 balls.

Orr went out in the penultimate over for 74 in 55 balls, while Miller was undefeated on 59 for 49 balls, in College’s total of 177 for three. Howick’s Bruce Haworth captured two of the three wickets to fall.

The President’s XI got off to a solid start with two Howick boys, Gareth Gardner and Cody Mortimer putting on 38 for the first wicket.

However, after 20 overs the President’s XI were 99 runs short and seven wickets down. St Charles play Westville at 4 pm today.
