Hurled brick narrowly misses driver

A PINETOWN motorist was lucky to escape a potentially dangerous situation when a brick thrown into his moving vehicle narrowly missed him, but shattered the rear window on the M19 highway yesterday morning.

Theo Vyenberg (53) was travelling with his wife Tina (56) from Durban to Pinetown when the incident occurred at about 5 am.

“As I was passing a squatter camp on the left I heard a loud bang, and thought I might have hit something. Since I won’t stop the car near a squatter camp, although I’m not a racist, I drove for a while before I stopped to inspect the car,” said Vyenberg.

He said he was shocked to find that the brick had entered via the driver’s window, which was open, before shattering the rear window.

“It missed me by an inch as it damaged the bracket of my seat belt. This is murder; I’m going back to the police station to lay a charge of murder.

“I saw two gentlemen standing near where the incident happened, they might have been waiting to hijack me if the brick had shattered my front window,” said Vyenberg.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Vincent Mdunge said a case of malicious damage to property was opened at Pinetown police station.

He said the docket will be transferred to Sydenham, where the attack took place.
