‘I met this child and I killed him’

2009-04-08 00:00

KOKSTAD — “I met this child and I felt like I (could) kill him”. These were the shocking words from a suspect whom police say confessed to them that he killed a two-year-old child by slitting his throat.

The suspect, a farm worker, cannot be named as he has not yet appeared in court.

The child, Sizakele Touch, was found in the bush on Nouhoek Farm near Kokstad on Monday with his throat cut after he went missing for an hour.

A 21-year-old man was arrested and confessed to the police that there was no reason for him to kill the child, but that it is just the way he felt. A close source said the the man is not considered mentally unstable.

The murder comes soon after an eight-month-old child went missing from his home, while his parents were sleeping, in the area last month.

Superintendent Dingaan Khumalo could not confirm whether this is a crime trend, and said a postmortem will reveal if any body parts were removed from Sizakele.
