‘I will miss Shoes deeply’

CAPE TOWN — Former Bafana Bafana and Kaizer Chiefs team-mate of John “Shoes” Moshoeu, Doctor Khumalo, reflected on the passing of the midfield maestro.

On Kaizer Chiefs’ website, Khumalo revealed that he knew “Shoes” before they started playing alongside one another. “I have known ‘Shoes’ since our high school days,” Khumalo reacted on the loss of Moshoeu.

“We later played against each other when he was with Blackpool,” continued Chiefs’ assistant coach. “We knew each other already for a long time before we would eventually become team-mates at Bafana Bafana.

“Later, Shoes joined Chiefs and was my roommate before games. I will miss Shoes deeply,” concluded Khumalo, “May his soul rest in peace.”

Khumalo and Moshoeu played together at Amakhosi during the 1993 season. They both starred at the 1996 Africa Cup of Nations, which South Africa won.
