ICD officials suspended

2012-02-13 00:00

TWO KZN Independent Complaints Directorate (ICD) officials have been suspended in connection with investigations into the Cato Manor organised crime unit, which has been dubbed a “death squad”.

ICD spokesperson Moses Dlamini, who did not want to name the officials, said they have until tomorrow to respond to their notices.

He said the probe into the death squad allegations would not be affected, as the two were not involved in it.

Dlamini said people continued to come forward to participate in the investigation.

“In the next week or two we will hold a press conference at which we shall tell the public what we have found out so far,” he said. “At this stage I cannot reveal anything about the investigation without compromising it as it is at a very sensitive stage.”

Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa told the Sunday Times that the head of the crime unit had received a notice of intention of suspension because not one police officer had been arrested to date on this very serious matter.
