THE Rajasthan Royals sent the Kings XI Punjab back down to earth with a thump in the first of yesterday’s IPL matches.

The Royals, enjoying a resurgence, chased down the Punjab’s total of 153 for six with a minimum of fuss, as Michael Lumb blasted a 43-ball 83, setting his side on cruise mode to victory with five overs to spare.

The Kings XI stay rooted to the bottom of the table after just two wins in a dismal campaign.

Rajasthan Royals’ 157 for one (Lumb 83, Ojha 44) beat Kings XI Punjab’s 153 for six (Jayawardene 44, Trivedi 2-20) by nine wickets.

The Kolkata Knight Riders showed tenacity to hold off the Delhi Daredevils by 14 runs.

Kolkata had made 181 for three, with Chris Gayle’s 56 the top score.

In reply, the Daredevils looked on their way when Virender Sehwag (64) and Gautum Gambhir (47) were together, but once they fell, it all unravelled. — Sports Reporter.
