IPL: Tendulkar shines in win over Chennai

2010-03-26 00:00

SACHIN Tendulkar continued his fine form as the Mumbai Indians hunted down the Chennai Superkings’ total of 180 for two.

Suresh Raina’s sparkling 83 not out from 52 balls seemed to have done the job, but they hadn’t reckoned with the class of Tendulkar. The little master smashed 72 off 52 balls, receiving handy support from Shikar Dhawan, who made a breezy 56 off 34 balls.

The Mumbai Indians, with 181 for 5 (Dhawan 56, Tendulkar 72), beat Chennai Super Kings, at 180 for 2 (Raina 83*, Badrinath 55*), by five wickets.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Daredevils beat the Royal Challengers by 17 runs in the earlier game.

AB de Villiers (45) kept up his return to form, while a handy contribution by Kedar Jhadav, 50 off 29 balls, saw the Delhi side to 183 in their allotted overs.

The Challengers chase lacked any real momentum, as regular wickets saw them stumble to 166 for 9 at the end of their overs. Jacques Kallis’s blistering form cooled, as he made 27 before being the first wicket to fall.

From there, the innings started to unravel, and despite Virat Kohli’s 38 off 23, the Challengers slipped to a disappointing defeat.

Mumbai Indians 181 for 5 beat Chennai Super Kings 180 for 2; Delhi 183 for 4 beat Bangalore 166 for 9.
