Idols: KZN hopefuls impress from the start

2013-03-04 00:00

MORE THAN 1 000 aspiring singers hoping to be the next Khaya Mthethwa travelled from all over the province to try their luck at the Idols Season Nine auditions held at Durban’s Playhouse on Saturday.

“We won’t be surprised if the Durban auditions produce another singing sensation,” said M-Net spokesperson Lani Lombard.

“KZN has talent, as previous winners Khaya and Jason [Hartman], as well as Top 10 contestants such as Lloyd Cele, Pixie Bennett and last year’s Shekhinah Donnell have illustrated.

It will be interesting to see how many golden tickets Idols judges Randall [Abrahams], Gareth [Cliff] and Unathi [Msengana] will hand out later this week,” said Lombard.

“They weren’t impressed with Cape Town’s hopefuls,” she said.

The final round of auditions will take place at the Sandton International Convention Centre in Johannesburg on Saturday, March 23. They have already been to Cape Town and Soweto.
