‘Idols’: local singer’s performance captivates SA

LOCAL superstar Vincent Bones has captivated the country with his astounding performances on South African Idols this year.

Bones (29) captured the imaginations of his ever-growing fan base with his heart-rending rendition of Miguel’s Adorn this past weekend on SA Idols.

Originally from Eldorado Park, Vincent took the train from Johannesburg to Pretoria at the age of 12, after his mother and uncle died. There, he roamed the streets of Sunnyside where he lived for quite some time, eating leftovers from rubbish bins. Luckily, he was taken to Boys Town where his life made an incredible U-turn.

He is now a worship leader at the Eagle Christian Centre in Pietermaritzburg, where he lives with his wife and two-month-old baby boy. Apart from his fans raving over his performance on social media, the judges had encouraging words for him. Randall Abrahams , who got him to sing another chorus to the wild applause of the audience, said that he did really well at an important phase in the competition. Gareth Cliff expressed his excitement for Bones’s future performances.

“Very excited to hear what else you’re going to do. That was very, very good. You’re a great singer,” said Cliff.

Facebook and Twitter have been buzzing with messages of support for the local performer. On Twitter, Novashni Chetty wrote: “I love your spirit, your story, and your hunger to succeed.”

On Facebook, Zethu Mthethwa wrote: “You were so good last night! Such an inspiration.”

Vincent’s Facebook fan page “Team Vincent Idolssa 2014” has accumulated over 540 fans within the past few weeks.
