‘Idols’ season-eight auditions kick off

2012-02-10 00:00

THE eighth season of Idols kicked off with a bang last Saturday, with the biggest opening-day queue of hopefuls in the show’s history.

Johannesburg’s aspiring singers started camping out outside the Sandton Convention Centre at 2 pm on February 3, and at dawn last Saturday, the queue was snaking all the way around the building, filling an entire block.

“It’s thrilling to think that the next South African idol might already be in this very queue,” said Idols host and co-producer ProVerb.

Tomorrow, KwaZulu-Natal’s aspiring singers have the chance to impress the judges. Auditions will be taking place at uShaka Marine World.

Contestants are advised to arrive early to register, and to make sure they are available for call-backs over the whole weekend, if necessary.

As in previous years, entrants must be at least 16 years old and no older than 30 on the day of their auditions, and all contestants must present a valid ID document to enter. A parent or a legal guardian must accompany entrants younger than 18 years of age.

Updates and further information can be found on the official Idols Facebook page at Idols South Africa, on Twitter @IdolsSA and at www.mnet. co.za/idols Season eight will be broadcast on M-Net and Mzansi Magic from June.
