Igesund is promised full PSL access

JOHANNESBURG — Irvin Khoza has assured Bafana Bafana coach Gordon Igesund that he has the full backing of the PSL ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations.

Igesund has reportedly been mulling a 30-day camp ahead of next year’s South African showpiece and was hoping the PSL would postpone some fixtures, especially in December, to accommodate the national team. Khoza said the matter was discussed at length and that although the coach was not getting his wish, all clubs had at least agreed to make his job a little easier.

“We will support Bafana as we have promised. I’m happy to announce that we have adopted some points of co-operation between ourselves and Safa to ensure we can avoid unnecessary surprises,” Khoza said.

“In fact, the coach wanted to have the players [locally based] in camp every Monday and we discussed that, but in the end we agreed that the coach must have full access to all the clubs in the PSL …”
