Imbali: Fire wrecks home

2012-10-02 00:00

AN Imbali family of eight lost most of their possessions when their house caught fire yesterday.

Neighbours rallied to the aid of the Nkosi family when their Magwaza Road home went up in flames at about 10 am yesterday, first trying to fight the blaze and, when that proved impossible, to salvage their belongings.

However, only two sofas were saved.

Busisiwe Nkosi said she was alerted to the fire when she noticed smoke pouring out of her bedroom. She rushed to investigate and found that the fire had already engulfed the room.

“I suspect electric cords [as the cause of the blaze] as the fire started in my bedroom. I am thankful that no one was harmed,” she said.

A mobile fridge being used to store food over the weekend, when the family held the tombstone unveiling for Nkosi’s husband, was among the items that were destroyed.
