Imfolozi: All quiet on poaching front

2013-04-04 00:00

IT has been considerably quieter in the Hluhluwe-Imfolozi game park since the drama of Sunday, March 24, when three suspected poachers were arrested and a fourth man was shot dead by rangers after an attempted poaching incident.

Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife’s Lawrence Munroe said they feared that a rhino had been shot by the suspects, but indications are that the poaching mission failed.

There were no signs of vultures and other scavenger activity, Munroe said, “and the knock-on effect from that arrest is keeping us very excited. There are a number of leads that are being followed. The helicopter is continuing with random patrols …”

KZN Rhino Watch received R3 245 from the Henley Midmar Yacht Club. Donations from R100 to R500 were received from Frans and Eunée dos Santos, Diana Martin, Barbara Hume, Candice Barry and Rosalind Houareu.
