Impi fired up to avenge UWC defeat

2012-03-26 00:00

IN their third match of the current Varsity Shield campaign, UKZN Impi lost 61-10 to University of Western Cape in Bellville and they will be determined to win the return match, which kicks off at 7 pm at the Peter Booysen Sports Park off Golf Road this evening.

UKZN will be going all-out to gain the upper hand from the first whistle in this their last match of the 2012 Varsity Shield season and will be aware that UWC were quick to capitalise on turnover ball in Bellville, so taking the correct options will probably be a key factor.

Winless from their seven matches, UKZN have the added incentive of wanting to break that sequence and end the campaign on a high.

Watching their team going down by just one point to University of Fort Hare last Monday was most disappointing for UKZN’s band of supporters, and they will surely come out in their numbers for the UWC encounter in a bid to spur their boys on in search of that elusive victory.

Whatever the bare facts of the season might say, this UKZN side have given their all in the most morale-sapping of campaigns, and victory against UWC will also set the majority of the players up for their opening KZN Premier Division match of the season when they host defending champions College Rovers on Saturday.

Log (played 8 unless stated): 1 Wits 29 points; 2 CUT (7) 24 points; 3 Western Cape (7) 16 pts; 4 Fort Hare (7) 15 pts; 5 (7) UKZN 2 pts.

Tonight: UKZN vs Western Cape (PMB); Fort Hare vs CUT.
