Indaba to empower young entrepreneurs

2010-10-20 00:00

UMZUMBE Municipality hosted a 2010 Youth in Business indaba at St Michael’s Hotel last week to help empower businesses that are run by young people.

The youth development manager, Mbali Msomi, said the indaba served an important purpose, adding that youth development agencies and the local economic development department are helping to empower young entrepreneurs through the 2010 Youth in Business programme.

“We do this so that they can contribute to job creation and sustainable incomes and become valuable citizens to the society in which they live by contributing to the economy.”

The regional chairperson of the National African Federated Chamber of Commerce (Nafcoc), Vuma Gigaba, said the Youth in Business indaba aims to provide a platform for young people in business to share their experiences and challenges, and help them find ways to deal with those challenges.

Gigaba said business skills should be taught from primary school. — Witness Reporter.
