India: in a hole after English swing

2012-12-15 00:00

NAGPUR — India found themselves deep in trouble against the swing bowling of James Anderson as they struggled to 87 for four on the second day of the fourth and final Test against England in Nagpur yesterday.

India need to win the Test to square the series but they still trail England by 243 and will have to bat last on a slow, awkward pitch.

Anderson picked up the wickets of Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir for 37 and Sachin Tendulkar for two while Graeme Swann dimissed Cheteshwar Pujara for 26 as India struggled to make any headway.

Virat Kohli (11 not out) and Mahendra Singh Dhoni (eight not out) will continue in the morning.

Earlier, India’s Piyush Chawla collected four wickets to help dismiss England for a challenging 330 after lunch.

England 1st innings 330 (JL Trott 44, KP Pietersen 73, JE Root 73, MJ Prior 57, GP Swann 56, I Sharma 3-49, RA Jadeja 2-58, PP Chawla 4-69). India 1st innings 87 for four (G Gambhir 37, JM Anderson 3-24).
