India salutes Minority Front leader

2008-01-09 00:00

Minority Front leader and MEC for Sport and Recreation in the province, Amichand Rajbansi, was on Tuesday night honoured with the Pravasi 2007 Award in India in recognition of his "contribution to the South African society".

His publicists say he received the award at a function in New Delhi hosted by the NRI (Non-Resident Indians) Institute, with the theme: "Celebrating the Glory of Overseas Indians".

The institute provides a platform to recognise the work of Indians living abroad. Rajbansi was one of 20 NRIs who received the award.

Dignitaries present were Union Finance Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal, Lord Daljit Rana, Lord Bill Lall and Shivender Mohan Singh.

KZN Sport and Recreation head of department, Sumayya Khan, said the award came as no surprise "due to the MEC’s … dedication in his pursuit of service excellence".
