Injury: Du Preez out of Scot Test

2008-11-13 00:00

THE Springboks received a blow in the build-up to their Test match against Scotland in Edinburgh on Saturday when scrumhalf Fourie du Preez was forced out yesterday with an injury.

Du Preez strained a quadricep in training, and after undergoing a scan afterwards, it was confirmed that he would be unable to face the Scots. This is a setback for South Africa as Du Preez’s ace tactical kicking game played a big role in taking the pressure off Ruan Pienaar in Cardiff last weekend.

Ricky Januarie takes over the No. 9 jersey. Danie Rossouw has been added to the bench in Januarie’s place, so giving them a five/two split between forwards and backs. Frans Steyn will take up the pivot position should Januarie be injured early in the game, and Pienaar forced to move to scrumhalf.

Revised Bok team: Conrad Jantjes, JP Pietersen, Adrian Jacobs, Jean de Villiers, Bryan Habana, Ruan Pienaar, Ricky Januarie, Pierre Spies, Juan Smith, Schalk Burger, Victor Matfield, Bakkies Botha, John Smit (captain), Bismarck du Plessis, Beast Mtawirara.

Bench: Brian Mujati, Gurthro Steenkamp, Andries Bekker, Danie Rossouw, Ryan Kankowski, Frans Steyn, Jaque Fourie
