Inland come a cropper in East London

2011-01-10 00:00

THE Provincial Challenge 40-over cricket match between KZN Inland and hosts Border at Buffalo Park in East London yesterday was not one to remember for the Maritzburgers as they went down by six wickets.

Border won with 55 balls to spare as they rattled up 158 for four in 30.5 overs in reply to KZN Inland’s 154 all out in 39.1 overs.

Choosing to bat after winning the toss, Inland didn’t manage to string any meaningful partnerships together with the opening stand of 33 being the largest of the innings and Tim Drummond’s 37 the highest score as Border put together a workmanlike performance in the field with the wickets being shared by five of six bowlers.

When Inland had Border struggling at 22 for two, Kimeshan Chetty picking up both wickets, the visitors were in with a sniff of victory, but Romano Ramoo, Shaun de Kock and Siyabonga Booi put paid to that idea with knocks of 47, 37 and 38 not out respectively.

The three-day match ended in a predictable draw on Saturday, but it did give the in-form Inland skipper Kyle Nipper — who got his maiden first-class ton on day one — as well as Chad Barron and Brad Moses the opportunity to notch up half-centuries.
