Inland date with fate at Wanderers

2014-12-18 00:00

WHILE the prospect of playing at the Wanderers in Johannesburg is something that any cricketer worth his salt would look forward to, getting runs and wickets there this weekend is not going to be easy.

This is the situation KZN Inland find themselves in when they take on Pool B log leaders Gauteng in the Sunfoil 3-Day Cup match that starts today.

KZN Inland coach Grant Morgan, who used to coach Gauteng, is now the man at the helm at Inland, while the Pietermaritzburg-based side’s skipper, Shane Burger, used to captain the Johannesburg-based team, so there will be no lack of knowledge of the conditions or opposition.

Gauteng lead Pool B with Inland fourth, but the Maritzburgers have two games in hand, “so this one is a key match”, said Morgan from Johannesburg.

“In-form Inland top-order batsman Imraan Khan is unavailable, as he has been called up to the Dolphins side, while tall leg-spinner Abdul Razak has withdrawn for personal reasons.”

Tshepang Dithole (21), Inland’s new recruit from Gauteng, comes into the side as a left-handed batter while Cyril Mthimkhulu, the opening bowler, takes Razak’s spot.

Yusuf Abdulla will likely come in for Sunday’s Provincial 50-Over Challenge match at the same venue.

INLAND: Nic Hendrie, Tshephang Dithole, Abram Ndhlovu, SJ Erwee, Sohail Razack, Shane Burger (capt), Kyle Nipper, Mbasa Gqadushe, Matt Pillans, Graham Hume, Ruhan Pretorius, Athi Maposa, Yusuf Abdulla.
