2008-01-30 00:00

THE provincial derby between visitors KZN Inland and KZN Coastal, at the Chatsworth Oval over the weekend saw the hosts emerge on top, writes JONATHAN COOK.

In the three-day match the Inland side were hanging on at the close, escaping with a draw in the end. Inland skipper Andre van Vuuren had a good match with bat and ball, though, taking six for 78 in 30 overs in the Coastal first innings and scoring 40 and 47 not out.

The subsequent one-dayer saw the home side, Coastal, brush off Gerry Penford’s century and fellow Varsity player Garry Hampson’s fifty, to win by five wickets.

Three-day: Coastal first innings 223. Inland first innings 170. Coastal second innings 154. Inland second innings 137/8. Match drawn.

One-day: Inland 208/8 in 45. Coastal 210/5 in 35.3 overs. Coastal won by five wkts.
