Inland to face SWD at the Oval

2014-11-13 00:00

THERE is a challenge on the hands of KZN Inland when they begin their Sunfoil Three-Day Cup match against South Western Districts (SWD) at the Maritzburg Oval come 9 am today.

Last time out SWD, who are captained by Old Hiltonian and former Inland skipper Ross McMillan, beat Inland at their home ground so now it’s time for the hometown Maritzburg lads to return the favour, said local leader Shane Burger.

“Yes, there is a bit of rivalry,” said Inland captain Burger yesterday, taking it easy before the big game.

“But we are up for this one, the guys have trained hard over the last two weeks and while we lost to them last time, it was a very tight match and we want to make sure it doesn’t happen again.”

Inland are the reigning SA T20 and 50-over champions, but the three-day is also a big one to aim for, said Burger. “Three-day gives a reflection of just how good a team is, it’s not decided in just a session or two, you have to be consistent match in and match out.

“We beat Griquas and did well to draw with Free State, and it would be great to win this weekend in our third match in the Sunfoil Three-Day Cup as there is a busy time ahead for us.”

Sunday see the sides lock horn in a T20 clash from 9 am.

Start of play: 9 am.

KZN Inland: Imraan Kahn, Abram Ndhlovu, Mbasa Gqadushe, SJ Erwee, Suhail Razack, Burger, Kyle Nipper, Ruhan Pretorius, Matt Pillans, Athi Maposa, Cyril Mthimkhulu, Graham Hume and Abdul Razak.
