Inspiring: Stellar weekend for inland’s Brad moses

2010-01-11 00:00

NOT content with the second first-class century of his career, earned in the three-day match against Easterns that ended Saturday, KZN Inland’s Bradley Moses inspired the home team to a 37-run victory in yesterday’s 40-over encounter with a knock of 68 followed by a harvest of four wickets for 29 runs.

Inland made 232 for five in their 40 overs with Moses supported by captain Tim Drummond’s 46 and Kyle Nipper’s unbeaten 43. Easterns could only muster 195, fellow spinner Morne van Vuuren backing up Moses with three for 33.

Add to his 119 in the three-dayer, and Moses is showing the improved focus and intensity predicted by Inland coach Doug Watson on Friday.

“I’ve noticed a quiet determination at practice to turn those numerous 40s this season into big scores,” Watson had said.

Indeed, Moses was disappointed he didn’t kick on from 41 in the first innings of the three-dayer last Thursday, and the frustrating thing was that he again didn’t look in the slightest trouble with the bowling when he surprisingly chipped out to mid-on.

It has been another tough season for the Inland team where, unlike their opposition, they are at the distinct disadvantage of not being able to call on the Dolphins squad players left out of a franchise fixture on any given weekend.

That, though, may change next season in a bid to make Inland a more competitive unit that can seriously challenge for a trophy.

Meanwhile, KZN Coastal did well to recover from a poor first day in their three-dayer with South Western Districts to come out on top of a draw in Oudtshoorn before winning Sunday’s 40-over bash by two wickets with just six balls left.
