It’s a snip: paramedics learn vital tricks from durban’s top jaws man

2011-08-16 00:00

NETCARE 911 held a workshop at Netcare Margate Hospital on Fridayat which paramedics brushed up their advanced first-aid skills and learnt about the latest in life-saving technology.

A spokesperson for Netcare 911, Chris Botha, said the emergency service hosts workshops regularly throughout the province so that paramedics are kept up to date with developments in their field.

The training course included simulated emergencies in which paramedics had to “save” people who were involved in life-threatening situations.

Extrication specialist Konrad Jones of Durban showed paramedics how to cut into vehicles, using quick and simple methods, to remove injured people. The demonstration covered accidents with overturned cars and where doors could not be opened. “By doing this, paramedics will know what to do should they be called to real situations like these,” said Botha.
