It’s a wrap ... and ending is predictable

2010-03-06 00:00

THE early start to the school year sees an equally early final Saturday of school cricket. All the top schools played their last matches last weekend, leaving just a few games today — most of which look set to be one-sided affairs.

Thomas More College will be hosting Pinetown, and it will be a difficult match for the visitors. Looking at their results, Pinetown has only won one game, against New Forest. Thomas More, on the other hand, have emerged victorious from all their games, against similar schools.

Howick are scheduled to host Maritzburg Christian School.

Since Howick are certainly the top second-tier school in the Inland region, if not in the province, and MCA are at best a third-tier school, the strong core of Howick players should claim an easy win.

Treverton travel to Greytown to play Wembley. The Mooi River side has only lost one game and that was against Howick. Wembley, like MCA, is a third-tier school, and their abilities will be sorely tested against Treverton.

The two Crawford Schools play in their last match of the term, but Crawford La Lucia plays regular cricket each week, while Crawford North Coast has half the number of fixtures, and they will struggle against the superior skills of their brother school.

A few other matches that were scheduled for today have been played during the week, leaving the day free to have rugby trials or practice matches.

Fixtures: Thomas More vs Pinetown; Howick vs MCA, Wembley vs Treverton; Crawford LL vs Crawford NC; Kloof vs Seaforth; George Campbell vs Durban North College
