MANDY Mgobhozi is the owner and stylist of Mandy Salon in Port Shepstone. It has been open for nine years and Mandy says she is in love with her job. The Witness asked her.


What do you appreciate the most about the South Coast?

The people here are very friendly and this is a very beautiful place. I also enjoy all of the activities it offers.

Do you think the Proteas will win the World Cup?

Yes, they are very into the game, and having beaten India, I believe anything is possible.

What interests you the most about your job?

When people feel good about themselves after having their hair done, and they leave very happy.

Which is the best book you have read?

The Long Walk to Freedom [by Nelson Mandela] because it is about my icon and the history behind his suffering.

What do you enjoy doing during your spare time?

Shopping, shopping and more shopping.

What keeps you going when you feel down?

Prayer. It is the most essential thing to a person; nothing can lift you up but prayer.

What makes you proud to be South African?

Hosting the football World Cup and mostly to be a woman who is liberated and independent.

What do you wish people knew about you?

I wish they knew the good side of me and appreciated what I do for the South Coast community.

Which is your favourite place in the South Coast?

Oribi Gorge. It is beautiful. The nature there just makes you forget about everything and appreciate life.
